The centerpiece of DZR's exhibition was the debut of a new composite refractory material - a structural integration of high-zirconia ceramic brick and fused cast refractory that combines the performance advantages of both materials into a single solution.

Traditional high-zirconia ceramic bricks are valued for their exceptional resistance to chemical corrosion from molten glass, while fused cast refractories are known for their dense, low-porosity structure and outstanding mechanical strength at extreme temperatures. This new composite material brings together both sets of properties, offering glass furnace operators a solution that delivers:

• Superior corrosion resistance from high-zirconia ceramic components

• Enhanced structural integrity and thermal stability from fused cast technology

• Extended furnace campaign life through the synergistic combination of both material technologies

• Reduced total cost of ownership compared to using separate material systems

This composite material is particularly suited for critical zones of glass melting furnaces, including sidewalls, throat blocks, and areas in direct contact with molten glass where both chemical resistance and structural durability are essential.
