Silicon carbide bricks are refractory materials made primarily of SiC. They have a Mohs hardness of 9 and are relatively stable against acidic slags. They contain 72%–99% SiC. Types include clay-bonded, Si3N4-bonded, Sialon-bonded, β-SiC-bonded, Si2ON2-bonded, and recrystallized silicon carbide bricks. They are mainly used in the manufacture of stills, aluminum casting molds, electric furnace linings, and heat exchangers in non-ferrous metallurgy.

 

Silicon carbide bricks are refractory products made primarily of silicon carbide. They contain 72%–99% silicon carbide. Generally, black silicon carbide (SiC content above 96%) is selected as the raw material, with the addition of a binder (or without a binder), and the process involves batching, mixing, molding, and firing. The main crystalline phase is silicon carbide. Major varieties include oxide-bonded silicon carbide bricks, carbon-bonded silicon carbide bricks, nitride-bonded silicon carbide bricks, self-bonded silicon carbide bricks, recrystallized silicon carbide bricks, and semi-silicon carbide bricks. It has the characteristics of good wear resistance, corrosion resistance, high high temperature strength, good thermal shock stability, high thermal conductivity and low coefficient of thermal expansion, and belongs to high-performance refractory materials.
